Bruce Timm, one of the co-creators of Batman: The Animated Series and producer of DC animated films for a long time, has explained his next project. Through The Hollywood Reporter, Timm is expected to produce a new Batman animated film that will also be an original story set in the 1970s. Sam Liu will direct the film, with a script through Jeremy Adams (Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge).

In Batman: The Dragon’s Soul, Bruce Wayne will reunite with 3 of his former classmates: Richard Dragon, Ben Turner, also known as Bronze Tiger and the fatal Lady Shiva. Together, Batman and his allies “will face a fatal risk of their past.”

The film also features Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva, with Mark Dacascos as Richard Dragon, James Hong as O-Sensei and Josh Keaton as Jeffrey Burr. In the DC universe, O-Sensei taught Richard Dragon and Ben Turner. Presumably, it will also be the sensei of Batman and Lady Shiva. However, the list of early actors does identify the villain of the film.

The film will be produced through Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, and is the ongoing task in the DC Universe Movies series.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon will be released in early 2021.
