“Clearly, my father’s speech is compromised and all this delight has revealed the non-public effort I made to paint with disabled actors, which I had never done before,” Mercedes said. “He revealed everything he had to gain by running with other people with other skills. My father is able to very deftly circumvent the limits of his speech, so I learned a lot from chasing him, how he communicated physically. He taught me a lot about acting that expanded the idea I have as an actor, which is the center of the word.”

Meanwhile, Val admitted that he learned “everything, life itself” by being with his daughter. “My only complaint is that I can never see Mercedes and her brother Jack, 25 enough.” Val supplies his children with his ex-wife Joanne Whalley.

“Health disorders have been all of that, stimulating, but a lot of smart things have emerged,” he said. “We all spend a lot of time together. Even the undeniable act of bringing all my father’s friends together before I was born, there are so many beautiful things that happen when you want people’s help.

“My father is such a smart and artistic user that I love spending time with, even if he wasn’t my father too,” Mercedes explained. “He’s a friend of mine.”
