Looking for the perfect series to binge-watch on Hulu? These five TV shows on Hulu will definitely keep you glued to your television screen.
In the era of the streaming wars, Hulu has an interesting platform in comparison to other competition, such as Netflix or Disney+. The streamer has its own packages and add-ons, can usually be bundled with other streaming sites, and tends to have next day airings of the most popular primetime series. It’s a bountiful platform that is, on the whole, more flexible than others.
There are also a ton of great series to binge on Hulu when you get down to it. Some series are ongoing while others are completed. Some are Hulu originals and others are acquired programming. What unites these five choices is that they’re all pretty great to watch as we slog through this weird, wild quarantine summer.
Elementary (2012-2019)
Sherlock fans may come from our collective wig after this, but Elementary should be considered an equally good (if not better) modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. This CBS procedural ran for seven seasons and over 150 episodes on CBS. And it’s great. From the chemistry of Jonny Lee Miller’s take on Sherlock Holmes to Lucy Liu’s own nuanced performance as Dr. Joan Watson, there’s a great camaraderie and friendship between the two.
More to the point, Elementary does a lot of fun and interesting things with the Sherlock Holmes property and definitely humanizes Sherlock a lot more than in other adaptations of the popular detective. It’s great binge with excellent character dynamics, interesting mysteries, and a real sort of Holmesian flair to the series.
Elementary has all seven seasons on Hulu.
High Fidelity (2020)
Starring Zoe Kravitz and adapted from the popular Nick Hornby novel of the same name, High Fidelity follows Rob (Kravitz), who owns a record store and struggles with her past of failed relationships. Desperate to make things work in the romance department, Rob goes on a journey to meet her “Desert Island Top Five Heartbreaks” in order to figure out what went wrong with each of them.
High Fidelity is a 10-episode rom-com that has been updated in interesting ways (such as Rob being a black bisexual woman) while also keeping true to the core of the novel and 1995 film adaptation. Kravitz absolute shines as Rob in the Hulu Original series, earning scores of praise for her portrayal of the role. Honestly, it’s a crime if she doesn’t get an Emmy nod for her work here.
High Fidelity has one season on Hulu.
Sabrina: The Teenage Witch (1996-2003)
While The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina over on Netflix is campy horror-filled fun, there’s also the OG of the Sabrina series, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch. A staple of any girl growing up in the 90s or 00s, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch was a weird and fun little comedy that starred Melissa Joan Hart as she dealt with her dual heritage and grew into her own woman of both worlds. Plus, you still can’t help but swoon over 90s Sabrina and Harvey, okay?
The series has over 150 episodes along with one of the television movies that will be great for a binge-watch. If you’re a millennial that still has fond memories of the shows you grew up with, then Sabrina: The Teenage Witch remains one excellent nostalgia-fueled binge-watch. Plus, the most important thing, is that Salem talks in this one.
Sabrina: The Teenage Witch has all seven seasons on Hulu.
My Hero Academia (2016-Present)
If you’re an anime fan, then chances are that you’ve heard of My Hero Academia. If you’re looking to get into this whole anime thing, then this gem of a series is excellent to start with. In a world where the majority of the population has superpowers (called quirks), young Izuku Midoriya is a middle schooler that is quirkless. After impressing his hero, All Might, he’s offered the chance to gain a quirk of his own and become hero after being accepted into the prestigious UA High School’s hero program.
Things, naturally, then go to pot because the villains are raising and hero class 1-A is caught in the crosshairs.
My Hero Academia is absolutely fantastic and has a hugely dedicated fanbase. The world of quirks is absolutely amazing and the cast of characters are vast, colorful, and pretty lovable. Fans of superhero series should definitely hop on the bandwagon because this series homages and deconstructs the genre in new and interesting ways.
My Hero Academia has four seasons of the subbed series and three seasons of the dub on Hulu.
Letterkenny (2016-Present)
Letterkenny is a series about all the shenanigans that take place in the titular small Ontario town of the same name. From the drug-dealing and breakdancing skids to the sharp wordplay of the hicks, Letterkenny has a ton of bright and interesting characters. With eight seasons under their belt at the time of the article, the cast and crew of Letterkenny has made a sort of place that we would all kind of love to live in.
In addition to the seasons, which usually run for six episodes, there’s usually a special holiday bonus episode to show just how Letterkenny celebrates those special times of the year. With a ton of sharp dialogue, great lowbrow humor, and a litany of insane small-town characters, Letterkenny is a series that is best binge-watched with friends or when you need to feel like you’re surrounded by friends as we all remain in exile.
Letterkenny has eight seasons on Hulu.
