Moviegoers in a Birmingham suburb that has been without a movie theater for nearly four years are about to see their prayers answered. The Empire of Sutton Coldfield was forced to close in November 2020 due to the second national lockdown related to the Covid pandemic.

But last year, the Jervis family stepped in to save cinema, something that the FoCiS (Future of Cinema in Sutton Coldfield) organization had campaigned for long and hard. James Jervis, director of PDJ Family Cinemas, returns to his roots after living within walking distance of Pilkington Avenue in his youth. James said, “This is the first cinema I’ve ever been to. PDJ Cinémas didn’t just need to reopen the cinema. They were also looking to repair it. His vision presented at the beginning of the year: open the false ceilings and blackened windows, renovate the art deco elements to highlight them.
