Weeks of fatal clashes between protesters and security forces in Bangladesh culminated in Hasina’s departure and flight to India on August 3, ending her 15 years of autocratic rule.
Following his abrupt resignation, there were reports of attacks on devout minorities, including Hindu homes, temples and businesses (archived link).
Hindus are the largest devout minority in Muslim-majority Bangladesh and are considered an unbreakable base of Hasina’s Awami League party.
Similar false information was also shared elsewhere on X and Facebook. However, the property owner has been misidentified.
In a message posted on his official Facebook page on August 9, Das said: “There was a recent report in various media outlets about an attack on our house, which has no truth to it. No one deserves to pay attention to such rumours. Me and my family circle is absolutely safe so far” (archived link).
He then called for an end to the violence and said the country “must move forward together, regardless of all religions. “
A Google search for the opposite symbol of a keyframe from the circulating video revealed that the gap coincides with a longer series posted on the YouTube account of Prothom Alo, Bangladesh’s largest newspaper, on Aug. 5 (archived link).
The Bengali caption on the video said that the space belonged to former cricketer and League lawmaker Awami Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

A photo appearing in the same space was published in the past via local media outlet Jago News 24 in a June 24, 2021 article that identified Mashrafe as the owner (archived link).

Narail district police chief Mehedi Hasan told AFP that the space in the video belonged to Mashrafe.
“It attacked and set fire on August 5 and no complaint has yet been filed about it,” he said.
