Actor Johnny Ortiz, who appeared to be alongside Kevin Costner in the 2015 sports drama “McFarland, USA,” is on $1.1 million bail after being charged with attempted murder, according to TMZ and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The 24-year-old will appear in court on Monday along with co-defendant Armando Miguel Navarro, according to online records.
The two men allegedly attempted to kill a guy named Brian Duke “for the benefit, direction and settlement with a street gang of criminals with the express intention of publicitating, advertising and assisting in the corrupt conduct of gang members,” according to court documents. received through TMZ.
It is not known precisely how Ortiz got involved in the crime, however, it is Navarro who is accused of shooting the victim, the gossip site reported on Monday. The 18-year-old suspect is on bail of $2.09 million, according to the sheriff’s office.
Both men were arrested on May 25 following an investigation through the Hollenbeck Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. A spokesperson for comment may not be contacted.
Ortiz starred in the 2019 Netflix film “The Way: A Movie of Breaking Bad” and the ABC anthology series “American Crime”.
His circle of relatives claims he is innocent and even introduced a fundraising crusade last week to try to get him out of jail.
