NEW YORK (AP) — Jonathan Majors’ ex-girlfriend sued him Tuesday on civil charges adding assault, battery, defamation and emotional distress, three months after the actor was convicted in an embezzlement trial for assaulting her in New York.
Grace Jabbari, a 31-year-old British dancer, filed a federal lawsuit in Manhattan, alleging that Majors subjected her to an escalation of incidents of physical and verbal abuse from 2021 to 2023.
“Grace Jabbari has never wavered,” her attorney, Brittany Henderson, said in an email to The Associated Press. “He has shown normal courage in his quest for accountability. This action will shed light on the truth, giving it finality and justice. “deserves. “
Majors, 34, has maintained his innocence in the offender’s case. A Manhattan jury found him guilty in December of a misdemeanor and felony harassment resulting from a confrontation with Jabbari last March. It also absolved him of some other type of attack and molesting harassment. Sentencing is set for April 8.
Jabbari said Majors attacked her in a car and left her in “excruciating” pain; his lawyers claimed Jabbari was the attacker.
Priya Chaudhry, Majors’ attorney in the offender’s case, said in an email that the trial “is not a surprise. Mr. Majors is preparing counterclaims against Ms. Jabbari. “He did not elaborate.
Other attorneys and a representative for Majors did not respond to messages Tuesday.
The “Creed III” star was hopeful that the criminal trial would prove him right and repair his prestige as a rising Hollywood star. But just hours after the verdict, Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Co. they abandoned him.
The retrial claims that Jabbari and Majors first met in August 2021, dated without delay, and she fell in love with him.
The lawsuit documents a number of incidents in which Majors exhibited controlling and abusive behavior, adding that it’s not easy in June 2022 for her to “never back down to any place where I can’t touch her at any time. “
The following month, according to the lawsuit, Majors threw her against the wall of a shower in Los Angeles, causing her to bang her head against the wall.
In September 2022, after moving into an apartment in London while filming the Marvel series “Loki,” Majors criticized Jabbari for inviting his friend to his new home, according to the lawsuit.
“The seniors lifted Grace into the air and threw her against the hood of their car,” the lawsuit states. “Grace started screaming for help. Then the elders grabbed Grace tightly, headbutted her, and laid their hands on her. his mouth to save you from hearing his cries for help. “
The elders then took Jabbari to their apartment and put their hands around her neck, saying he wanted to kill her, according to the lawsuit. He then began slamming her head on the marble floor “while strangling her until he felt he could just kill her. “they are no longer breathing,” the complaint states.
Jabbari said he sought medical attention after the incident, at Majors’ urging and out of considerations about his career, the lawsuit states. Majors also threatened to kill himself, according to court records.
Despite the alleged abuse, Jabbari remained with the majors, the lawsuit says. “Like many victims of domestic violence, Grace thought adult defendants would replace her and prevent abusing her,” it reads.
In December 2022, they moved into an apartment in New York City. The abuses continued there, leading to an attack case against Majors, to the lawsuit.
In that case, Jabbari accused Majors of hitting her on the head with an open hand, twisting her arm backwards and squeezing her middle finger until it fractured.
Lawyers for the majors said she became enraged out of jealousy after reading a text message from another woman on her phone. They said Jabbari had told the actor a “fantasy,” that he was only looking to retrieve his phone and escape unharmed. .
The lawsuit also accuses Majors of defamation and malicious prosecution for allegedly lying in media interviews that she never abused Jabbari and for filing a delinquency complaint against her for the incident that led to her arrest, claiming he was the victim.
“The elders then behaved as many domestic abusers do in attempting to shift the blame onto their victim,” the lawsuit states.
Jabbari was briefly arrested at a New York police station based on Majors’ claims, but prosecutors dropped all charges the next day.
The lawsuit says Jabbari must pay at least $75,000 in damages and other costs.
