Adam Sandler stars in “Happy Gilmore 2”; ‘Shooter McGavin’ Actor Recruited

It looks like the iconic 1996 film, Happy Gilmore, might be getting a sequel.

Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin on the sports comedy, revealed Friday in an appearance on 92. 3 The Fan of Audacy that Adam Sandler, who plays Happy Gilmore, recently showed him a draft of the script for Happy Gilmore 2.

McDonald told theScore’s Caitlyn Holroyd:

Sandler had in the past expressed interest in creating a sequel to the film, stating in an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show in 2021 that he would approve the project.

The original film follows Sandler’s character, Happy, an aspiring professional hockey player who discovers golf and competes in a golf tournament to save his grandmother’s house.

Happy Gilmore earned about $40 million at the global box office in its debut, according to Variety’s Zack Sharf.
