After more than 400 episodes, manga giant Shueisha has announced that there are only five bankruptcies left in Kōhei Horikoshi’s hugely popular My Hero Academia before it ends. The news was revealed on MHA’s official Twitter account, which announced that the final bankruptcy of the series would be released on August 5 as a component of Weekly Shōnen Jump #36/#37. The news follows the recent announcement that the series would be on hiatus for several weeks.
Horikoshi showed the news online in a message to enthusiasts that read, “Sorry for the two-week break! My schedule has been piling up. . . There are only five chapters left before the manga ends. Some might think, ‘There are still Five Chapters to complete. ‘Go?!’ while others would possibly think, “Only five chapters left?!however, I will do my best to make sure that both parties enjoy those last five chapters with Deku and the others. It’s been a tough road, but still. “I’ve been drawing Deku and his friends for almost 10 years, thanks to everyone who kept reading. Thanks a lot!
Although the suddenness of the ending comes as a surprise, Kōhei Horikoshi has been hinting for several years that he was close to concluding the story. He said in 2021 that the series had lasted longer than expected and he believed it could end in 2022. He said something similar the following year, and the series officially entered its epilogue phase with the recent publication of Bankruptcy 424.
My Hero Academia was introduced in the pages of Weekly Shōnen Jump in July 2014 and has temporarily become one of the fan-favorite manga. The series’ collections have sold over a hundred million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time. It also spawned a hit animated series, which has run for seven seasons so far, as well as 3 animated films, a fourth of which, My Hero Academia: You’re Next, will debut on August 2, just days before the manga ends.
