1949 saw the release of a trio of old British comedies that did, in fact, cement Ealing’s position in history as the most productive film studios in the country: PASSPORT TO PIMLICO, KIND HEARTS
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of those landmark films and complete the theatrical re-release of a new 4K revival of Ealing’s sweetest crime film, THE LAVENDER HILL MOB (opening March 29), cinemas across the country will offer a variety of Ealing classics. , whether comedy or drama, under the slogan ONCE AGAIN WITH EALING!
PASSPORT TO PIMLICO and WHISKY ÀGALORE! are hilarious celebrations of British eccentricity and wit and herald a healthy authority along with a hefty dose of anarchy. Something far more evil lurks in KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS, Ealing’s darkest, smartest, sexiest and most wicked comedy. Undoubtedly a source of inspiration for SALTBURN, this biting story of ascent stars Dennis Price in the role of Louis Mazzini, cast from the bosom of his aristocratic circle of relatives as a baby thanks to the “inappropriate” marriage of his mother, who returns in adulthood to recover. one (most notably Alec Guinness, in various roles) who stands in his way.
Other classics to savor come with the unflinching Alec Guinness of Ealing and his band of thieves defeated through Katie Johnson and her parrots in gloriously restored Technicolor 4k THE LADYKILLERS, innovative and provocative dramas such as POOL OF LONDON and IT Always Rains on Sunday, the archetypal portguyteau of horror defended by all, from John Landis to Kenneth Branagh to DEAD OF NIGHT and that Guinness guy again, taking on big business while trying to undo his miraculous invention in THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT. And that’s just to mention a few of Ealing’s in-store treats.
THE LAVENDER HILL MOB launches as a 4K UHD and virtual collector’s edition on April 22.
