In line with his plan to reduce his CO2 emissions, Sasol has signed an exclusive negotiation agreement for Air Liquide (Paris: AI) for the acquisition of the world’s largest oxygen production site in Secunda, South Africa. As a component of this, Air Liquide would operate the 16 air separation sets (AUSUs) on this site, with an installed capacity of 42,000 tons consistent with the day, in addition to the unit that is already operating today, and would launch a multi-year modernization. In addition to the safety, reliability and efficiency benefits, Air Liquide’s solution, in coordination with Sasol, would allow specific relief of 30% to 40% of CO2 emissions similar to oxygen production until 2030. Air Liquide has been in the since 1979 and has been supporting Sasol, a built-in power and chemical company, for many years. Sasol, a major commercial player, is at the heart of an ecosystem that is fundamental to the country’s economy. Air Liquide has built and sold to Sasol the 16 air separation equipment that the Group acquires today, in addition to the unit that operates directly. This operation relates a multiannual investment and modernization plan.
The parties aim to negotiate final agreements in the coming months. These agreements shall be subject to approval through the relevant authorities.
Outsourcing oxygen production to Air Liquide would be security, reliability and efficiency, i.e. from an attitude of power through the implementation of highly controlled operational practices, complex technologies, investments in modernization and virtual functions to optimize asset control and energy consumption. In addition, there are plans to secure large amounts of renewable energy in accordance with Sasol’s tender to supply the Secunda site with six hundred MW of renewable energy. Implementing all these responses would allow Air Liquide to reduce CO2 emissions from oxygen production by 30 to 40% by 2030, in line with Sasol’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint.

It will allow new groups to register in those already provided by the Group on the site.
