Amazon and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) jointly filed a lawsuit to shut down ReviewServiceUSA. com, a site that allegedly attempted to sell fake positive reviews for Amazon product directory pages or BBB business profiles. The lawsuit, filed in King County Superior Court, is Amazon’s latest effort to stem the tide of fake reviews.
Amazon alone blocked more than 250 million suspected fake reviews on its e-commerce site in 2023. In October 2022, Amazon filed civil and criminal offense lawsuits in Europe, as well as 10 lawsuits in the United States in an attempt to thwart fake reviews, and in June 2023, Amazon unveiled a cross-industry strategy to address this challenge. In October 2023, Amazon and several other major sites, plus Expedia and Glassdoor, also formed the Coalition for Trusted Reviews to fight fake reviews.
