AMC and Universal Pictures agree video on demand after their 17-day movie theater debut

(RTTNews) – AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (AMC) and Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG), a department of Comcast Corp. (CMCSA), they reached an agreement to shorten the cinema window to 17 days for the studio films.

The agreement includes at least 3 theatrical exclusivity weekends for all Universal Pictures and Focus Features theatrical premieres. After that, the studio will have the opportunity to be available on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms, adding through AMC Theatres On Demand.

The new agreement marks a replacement for the popular movie theater premiere window, which lasted between 70 and 90 days in recent years.

“Theatrical jolgorio remains the cornerstone of our company. The partnership we have forged with AMC is based on our collective preference to ensure a disgustingly rich long-term term for the film distribution ecosystem and meet customer demands with flexibility and flexibility.” Donna Langley, president of UFEG, said.

Universal and AMC discussed the launch windows after Universal planned to release long-running films on virtual and theatrical platforms, due to the good luck of the direct virtual release of Trolls: World Tour, which had reached theaters due to the existing COVID. -19 pandemic.

Adam Aron, executive director of AMC Theatres, called Universal’s plan “unacceptable” and threatened to ban all long-term versions of Universal in AMC theaters.
