San Diego Comic-Con is here, and while that means we’ll get the latest updates on our favorite movie and TV franchises, it’s also about grocery shopping for collectibles. Each stall on the ground floor is filled with wonderful collectibles to take home, plus AMC. The movie theater chain brought one of its viral popcorn buckets to SDCC and I’m surprised it’s already sold out.
While Comic-Con attendees would possibly be talking about getting loose buckets of Wolverine popcorn at the Deadpool screening
I knew Dune 2’s popcorn bucket was making waves on the internet; jokingly, it looked like a NSFW item, but I was surprised to see that it was completely sold out just hours after the first official day of San Diego Comic-Con. . It’s not like this movie came out in March and this item had such an effect that creditors were able to get it back as soon as it hit the show. Look at this photo that seems to be no longer available. :
Maybe it’s the viral video of Rebecca Ferguson finding out you had to stick your hand in the popcorn bucket, or maybe it’s just that the cast of Dune 2 has the same reaction as the rest to its release. Either way, the fact that creditors are rushing to get them makes me think that this article is officially etched in pop culture history forever.
If you haven’t kept up with the upcoming movies of 2024, Dune 2 is rarely the only one looking to cash in on the popcorn bucket game. Aside from the one with Deadpool and Wolverine that doesn’t care, there are some wonderful Alien: Romulus cubes to prevent its release, and let’s not forget that wild souvenir mug, Despicable Me 4.
It seems that we are in a new era that is also familiar to the great films of the 90s. I think about buying a Casper puppet at Pizza Hut before watching the movie and the same with The Earth Before Time. It turns out that marketing groups have become aware and have figured out a way to help young people walk through the cinema, and who am I to disappoint my child within minutes of watching a movie they’re passionate about?
It’s a trend that I think may not last. At the same time, I love the fact that we’re getting it now, and I feel like none of this would have happened without the viral fame of the Dune 2 popcorn bucket. Maybe creditors think the same, and that’s why They’re sourcing from other people who will be searching for one online for decades, like I’m doing with a Casper puppet right now.
