AMC Theatres, the nation’s largest film network, announced Wednesday that it plans to reopen about two-thirds of its locations in the United States through September 3. More than a hundred theaters in the United States will reopen until August 20, AMC said.
AMC said all of its remaining U.S. sites would reopen when the state and local government said it would, but did not specify where it expected additional delays. All its theatres in the Middle East and Europe will reopen until 26 August.
In pronouncing the reopening, the corporate provided a long explanation of its plans to ensure the protection of moviegoers, adding the restriction of the number of seats, the practice of social estrangement, a mandatory mask policy and greater cleanliness and disinfection.
“Nothing is more for AMC than its protection and trust in us to do the right thing,” the company said.
The company has also announced new films that will be available once the cinema reopens, adding the latest installment of the X-Men cinema universe and Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited “Tenet”.
The announcement comes after months of hypothesis about when and how cinemas will reopen. In June, the company announced that it expects between 97% and 98% of its cinemas to be open internationally until mid-July. A few days later, the company’s reopening plan sparked controversy over the need for a mask, but AMC changed course and said all consumers would have to wear a mask.
