AMD has announced the next generation of APU 4000 G Zen 2 ‘3rd Gen Ryzen’ series – processors with integrated Radeon graphics – that promise playable symbol frequencies in newer games looking for a discrete graphics card. However, there is a trap for PC DIY enthusiasts.
AmD’s old APUs have provided low-budget PC enthusiasts with a way to own a gaming PC for much less cash thanks to its integrated graphics and new 4000 series APUs, adding the Ryzen 7 4700G flagship, its first eight-core APU, brings tougher Radeon graphics , as well as AMD Zen 2 7nm architecture.
Zen 2 is also used in its existing third generation Ryzen processors, such as Ryzen five 3600XT and Ryzen 3300X, which have noticed significant functionality innovations in second generation Ryzen processors. The additional functionality will most likely mean that AMD’s new APUs will offer much greater game and content creation functionality than the last generation Ryzen five, 3400G.
The problem, in fact, there are several, is that the APUs announced today will not be available separately. In other words, they can only be taken as a component of a new PC, not just as it does lately with third generation Ryzen processors. AMD’s reasoning in this regard is that its OEM systems business in development is several times larger than DIY, making it a priority right now. However, AMD has demonstrated that a 4000G SERIES APU part intended for DIY will be available in the short or long term; specifications have not been announced.
Other challenges are that you’ll want a 400 or 500 series chipset to use the new APUs, which means that the motherboards of the X370 and B350 chipsets won’t be compatible. Finally, there is no support for PCI-E 4.0, although this is a minor challenge, as it has no effect on graphics functionality in the supply and the PCI-E 4.0 SSD is still very premium parts with less expensive PCI-E 3.0. SSDs offer a much higher cash price and are more suitable for economical systems anyway.
I’ll take a look at the new processors when they arrive in July, so on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Reddit for more data and reviews on PC hardware.
