Andris Nelsons accepts current contract as Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra

BOSTON (AP) — Andris Nelsons has accepted a renewable contract as conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

The 45-year-old Latvian has been the BSO’s music director since the 2014-15 season, when he began a five-year contract. He was replaced by an eight-year contract until 2021-2022 and in October 2020 by a three-year contract. Year extension through the 2024-25 season.

The BSO said Thursday that Nelsons also won an additional position as executive director of Tanglewood, the music and education center that is the orchestra’s summer home.

Nelson has been music director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra from 2017-2018.
