Apple Cinemas opens in Pittsford, offering a cinematic experience

PITTSFORD, N. Y. — There’s a new position for local moviegoers to watch new videos exclusively.

The ribbon was cut Friday morning at the new Apple Cinemas, which is located at the site of the former Pittsford Cinema in the Pittsford Plaza. This comes roughly a year and a half after another theater in the plaza closed.

“We wanted to provide a top-notch experience,” explained Siva Shan, owner of the new theater. “So we took a little bit of time to open the place, but we tried to open it properly. “

When you walk through the door, there are no food stalls in sight, but a full-service bar.

Moviegoers can still buy candy and popcorn, but burgers, wings, fries and other pub-style meals can be ordered from the comfort of their seats at the new cinema with just a scan of a QR code.

“They can order drinks, they can order alcohol, they can order anything,” Shan said. “Everything will happen in their position so they don’t have to do anything. Just go to the movies, order food and enjoy. “

The 27,452-square-foot theater will also feature the region’s first big screen with Dolby Atmos, a surround sound format.

Bob Simon, a Pittsford resident, the theater’s first patron.

“I think it’s a great concept,” he said. “I don’t think Rochester has one at this point, and I think they did have one in the past that didn’t make it. I hope this one does.”

The new location is Apple’s first theater in New York state and 11th nationally.

The company is also planning to open inside the former Regal Cinemas location at The Mall at Greece Ridge. Work is already underway there, and the theater is slated to open in late spring of 2024.

The owner recommends that visitors arrive 30 minutes early if they plan to order food.
