More than a hundred sheep manufacturers participated in a webinar to find out how to make the most of a new sheep genetics search site, presented through Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).
The new search site is a key feature of Sheep Genetics’ updated website, which provides a variety of enhanced features to make Australian Livestock Values (ASBV) more available and allow users to customize knowledge to meet their needs.
ASVVs are used through ram breeders and ad manufacturers to make decisions about genetic varieties for key characteristics that influence the productivity and profitability of the farm. They allow manufacturers to compare the genetic perspective of animals, regardless of environment and location, when buying rams.
New features designed for the search site user experience, adding faster load times, more specific search features, and less difficult navigation. It has also been optimized for desktops, mobiles and tablets, making it available on any device.
Peta Bradley, senior progression manager at MLA Sheep Genetics, said the new research site evolved in reaction to industry-wide feedback on the functionality and capability of Sheep Genetics’ previous website.
“Our previous Sheep Genetics online page had been in position for 12 years and the desires of manufacturers have evolved during this period,” Bradley said.
“Achieving the purpose of the National Livestock Genetics Consortium to double the rate of genetic gain in Australian livestock until 2022 requires greater adoption through genetic tool producers, adding ASVV.
“With over 4 million animals now being analyzed through Sheep Genetics and ASVV for a list of characters in development, the old site was slow to search and downloads were adapting to a problem, so it’s vital that the new search site tackles this problem. .
“MLA has presented two projects to help the genetic gain rate of the Australian sheep industry by simplifying the tools, language and descriptions presented through the Sheep Genetics database research site.
“The new site provides users with simplified and intuitive data and enhanced flexibility to customize the tool to meet the express objectives of individual operations, so manufacturers can achieve their variety goals faster.”
Bradley said all Novice ASVV manufacturers who buy rams can easily locate data and animals of interest.
“Producers can customize knowledge based on their demo preferences, whether visual or numerical. Previously, knowledge was only presented on a giant table. Now, other types of demonstrations, such as the graphical view, have been done to accommodate a wider audience,” Bradley said.
“Improvements have also been made to the way manufacturers create sales and sperm catalogs to list the animals that can be purchased, adding the pencil card generation feature with a QR code that other people can scan to demonstrate directly on their phone.”
Bradley said MLA has worked to make the adjustments offer more ASVV, not only to Sheep Genetics customers, but also to the industry at large.
“Producers who are members of Sheep Genetics can now create accounts, which means they can register and export studios and locate attractive animals more easily,” Bradley said.
Ms. Bradley said the search site will continue to be updated to ensure that the most productive user imaginable delights in australian manufacturers and the sheep industry as a whole.
“We will continue to expand and make it as easy to use as possible, pursuing our purpose of expanding the rate of genetic improvement in our national flock of sheep,” Bradley said.
“This is the first edition of a new study and we look forward to its development.”
