Assa Abloy®’s SMARTair wireless access formula protects the site of a heritage school in Spain

Schools and heritage sites offer their own unique security and access challenges. It becomes a challenge when the same applies to a school that is also a heritage site of exceptional value. This was the challenge faced by the security directors of the Colegio Diocesan Santo Domingo in Orihuela, Spain.

The Diocesan College is more than a school. Its historic buildings date back to the sixteenth century, a heritage site and a learning position, with a museum that requires the coverage of the same system.

As a result, registering a new access formula required minimal disruption on two fronts. The buildings of the school are a resource of cultural interest and are registered in the sign of the Spanish heritage: they must not be damaged. School leaders also demanded little disruption of daily school learning. Wireless access was the apparent response.

A rugged control option allows real-time security to restrict loose access to and around the site

SMARTair wireless access devices® now access through three hundred gates around the school. A combination of battery badges and weather-resistant ridges, button cylinders and stressed wall drives (including elevators) are connected to SMARTair’s intuitive software through a network of 38 wireless communication centers.

The school chose the SMARTair Wireless Online control for its new keyless access system. This harsh control option allows real-time security to restrict loose access to and around the site, even if the school’s knowledge network doesn’t work. Automated emails inform workers’ law enforcement of any incidents, protective students, personnel, appliances and valuable assets.

“The main merit is the ease of managing keys in real time, from anywhere and at any time, through the wireless online control system,” says Francisco Fernández Soriano, It Director. This increases the protection of young people and because no unauthorized user can enter the school.”

SMARTair TS1000 software simplifies factoring and cancellation of identifiers for transient visitors such as parents

SMARTair locks and drives offer a simplified way to manage access. Students and bring in identity data programmed to allow access to express legal areas. SMARTair TS1000 software simplifies the factoring and cancellation of access identifiers for transient visitors such as parents.

“In addition to the main entrances and classrooms, access to personal areas such as elevators, offices, staff rooms, the church, the museum, the library and the computer room is monitored,” he adds. “With our SMARTair aircraft installed on more than three hundred doors, the security team can know who accessed which area and when at any time.”

The formula installed without problems and also without any interruption of the courses “

The installation of the school’s new SMARTair formula required minimal work. Some school gates date back to the 16th century, so it was not possible to make primary adjustments to door hardware. “The formula was installed smoothly and also without any interruption of the courses,” Soriano confirms. Because SMARTair is a modular formula, scalability is integrated. They can expand or refine their access formula whenever they want. In fact, SMARTair’s “Phase II” is already under discussion.

SMARTair software also integrates seamlessly into the school’s existing control workflows. The Diocesan College has been an iinventi schooling control software for more than five years. Integration with SMARTair software was simple: access control, library and dining room are controlled from a built-in system.

“SMARTair the school security team the answers they need,” concludes the school’s director, the Reverend José María Fernández-Corredor.
