Avatar sequels in production for a long time, as well as upcoming Star Wars films, have been delayed by a year, Disney announced through a Variety report. Director James Cameron commented on the announcement stating that the delay was due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“As many of you know, because of VOCD-19, we were forced to make a long unforeseen delay to start the live filming we’re doing lately in New Zealand,” Cameron said. “What many of you don’t know is that the pandemic still prevents us from resuming our virtual production paintings on the Los Angeles stages. These paintings are as critical to videos as they are for live paintings.”

Sequels directed through Cameron to the Avatar of 2009 will now be released every December 2nd, at which point access will come on December 16, 2022. This means that Avatar 3 will debut on December 20, 202four; Avatar four will be released on December 18, 2026; and Avatar five will premiere in theaters on December 22, 2028.
“Before COVID-19, everything was on track to bring them the first sequel in December 2021,” Cameron continued. “Unfortunately, because of the effect of the pandemic on our program, it is no longer imaginable that we set this date.”
In addition, the trio of Star Wars films are now expected to fall every two years around Christmas, alternating with the sequels to Avatar. The first film in the new film series will arrive on December 22, 2023; the moment will be released on December 19, 2025 and the last will be released on December 17, 2027.
Disney’s successful Christmas release schedule has been interrupted as cinemas like AMC continue to battle reopening amid the coronavirus outbreak. Many expanding films, adding Disney’s Mulan and Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, have been rejected as cinemas find the safest way to reopen viewers. In fact, Mulan has just been completely removed from the publishing calendars.
