After a series of conversations on the network that have already been a success about this summer’s race, the municipality will hold another one on Wednesday, August 12 at 7 p.m. Focus.
This verbal exchange will focus on how to be equitable in education and will come with guest speakers Dr. Maureen Gillete, Decana, Faculty of Education, Seton Hall University, Dr. Jennifer Robinson, Executive Director, Pedagogy Center, Montclair State University and former Assemblywoman Bill Payne. Councilers Jenny Mundell and Dr. Wartyna Davis will lead the verbal exchange.
“Based on the productive and informative conversations we had this summer about the race, I look forward to learn more about how we can be fair in our school system,” the mayor of Venezia said. “The Council and I have learned valuable lessons from these conversations and look forward to applying what we have learned to make our network a more egalitarian and inclusive position for all.”
This will be a broad discussion on equity in education and will include data on national trends as well as general definitions. Both resources and assessment tools for parents, educators and decision makers will be discussed and provided to the community.

Dr. Jennifer J. Robinson is Professor and Executive Director of the Pedagogy Center, the institutional unit of Montclair State University that coordinates the initial preparation of instructors and the simultaneous renewal of the instructor and school training. As a professional educator, Robinson has allocated more than $14 million in externally funded grants to recruit, prepare, and assist young and experienced educators in New Jersey school districts. He has made professional presentations, conducted studies and written articles on recruiting/retaining instructors and maintaining associations between school and university.
Dr. Maureen Gillette is recently dean of the University of Seton Hall School of Education and Human Services. Originally from the Chicago area, she taught in elementary and high school for twelve years before completing a phD. University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began his career in instructor education at the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York. She served for six years as Associate Dean of the William Paterson University School of Education and Dean of the Daniel L. Goodwin School of Education at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, IL for 11 years.
