‘Borderlands’, a box office hit, already has a release date on digital streaming

Borderlands, the film adaptation of the hit video game starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, will soon be available for virtual streaming.

Borderlands hit theaters on August 9, but was bombed its first weekend. The Borderlands connection line reads, “Lilith (Blanchett), a notorious bounty hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. His project is to locate the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramírez), the toughest son of a bitch in the universe.

Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands stars Hart as a mercenary, Roland, Jamie Lee Curtis as a scientist and archaeologist, Tanner, Ariana Greenblatt as a preteen wrecker, Tiny Tina, and Florian Munteanu as a bodyguard, Krieg.

According to When to Stream, Borderlands will debut with premium digital video streaming available on Friday, August 30. The streaming tracker said that Borderland’s studio, Lionsgate, has yet to announce or verify the release date and that the date is subject to change.

The transmission tracker, however, is accurate in its reporting on PVOD release dates. DVD Releases also reported the PVOD release date of August 30 for Borderlands.

Borderlands is available now for pre-order for $24. 99 on Prime Video. Pre-order values are the purchase value of a movie on PVOD, while PVOD rentals cost $5 less. As such, viewers can expect to sign up for Borderlands in PVOD for $19. 99 over a 48-hour period when it is available on virtual media such as Prime Video, AppleTV, and VUDU.

The 21-day window between the Borderlands date and the PVOD seems to follow the same fast trend as the virtual stream of the Lionsgate: The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare movie.

Directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson and Eiza González, the World War II action-adventure film premiered in theaters on April 19 and debuted 3 weeks later on PVOD on May 10.

Borderlands was a success with both audiences and critics in its opening weekend.

According to The Numbers, Borderlands earned $8. 6 million in North American theaters from August 9 to 11. To date, the film has grossed $13. 5 million domestically and $7. 7 million in foreign-priced ticket sales, for a foreign total of $21. 2 million.

Deadline reported that Borderlands had a production budget of between $120 million and $130 million, and another $30 million was spent on printing and advertising costs.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes were largely critical of Borderlands, and collectively gave the film an “rotten” score of 11% based on 142 reviews.

The film also scored a “rotten” RT score of 52%, based on more than 500 verified user reviews.

Rated PG-13, Borderlands marks the second major adaptation of a Hollywood video game in 2024, following Prime Video’s eight-episode Fallout series.
