NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Fans have been clamoring for the return of the Society since it was cruelly canceled after the first season, and our wishes may soon be granted.
The hit premiered on Netflix in May 2019 and starred Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Olivia DeJonge, Toby Wallace, and Jacques Colimon.
It followed teenagers displaced from their hometowns during a school vacation; They ended up in the same version, without adult supervision.
The gang was forced to take matters into their own hands and create their own community, but things temporarily went off the rails and escalated into a Lord of the Flies-style scenario with an omnipotent cliffhanger.
Viewers watched it in droves and TV chiefs first renewed the show for a second season, but it was ultimately canceled due to the global pandemic, prompting a massive backlash.
Five years later, requests for more episodes have not abated, leaving author Christopher Keyser reeling from the massive reaction, leaving the chamber still searching for tactics to move the story forward.
At one point, he revealed that enthusiasts were about to get new episodes in graphic novel form before the publisher went bankrupt.
“It’s not about a general cancellation. It’s not about not having an audience or not believing in it anymore. There is a global crisis that replaced the lives of all of us in the year that we were able to get ahead,” he told Variety. in a recent interview.
“I have constant conversations with a writers’ organization and Marc Webb [executive producer] about how we can get this back somehow. We don’t have an answer yet and I wouldn’t count on it, but I don’t do that with each and every canceled show.
“The public needs to communicate it. They get excited and need answers to their questions, and then they are asked new questions. I just don’t know if the world will work in a way that works for us, but we’re going to keep looking for a while because it bothers me too.
Kathryn and her colleagues led the organization of young people who were desperately trying to understand their plight and how their lives had changed in the blink of an eye.
The first series ended on a huge cliffhanger when the audience learned that the teenagers’ parents were still alive and healthy in “normal” and they thought their children were dead.
We were also left with questions about where the school buses carrying students went after disappearing into thin air and whether the two timelines would merge again.
Netflix bosses announced the resolution to cancel The Society, as I Don’t Agree With This, in August 2020, amid the global Covid-19 pandemic.
“We made the difficult decision to move forward with the second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This,” they said at the time.
“We are disappointed to have to make those decisions due to the cases created by Covid, and we are grateful to those creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry of 21 Laps Entertainment for I’m For I agree with this; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis of The Society and all the writers, cast and crew who worked tirelessly to make those exhibitions for our members around the world.
Christopher remained coy about what would happen next, should his revival or graphic novel plans ever come to fruition, but he swore they already had the plots mapped out.
“It’s like something that we enjoyed and could do more than anything else I’ve ever done in my life has been taken away from me,” he added. “It’s true for the writers and for Marc Webb, who I directed the series with. It seems like it stopped in the middle of the animation, but we knew a lot about what would happen on the other side.
“There’s also something emotional that happens when the audience comes up to us and constantly says, ‘Tell me what happened. ‘When will he return? It’s especially poignant for us because we were closer than I think the maximum displays are to being in a position to start over.
Fans have since scrutinized his comments on social media, begging Netflix to select more episodes for a much-needed “closure. “
On Twitter, Elise pleaded, “Bring back all the actors and move on, we as a society will forget about the fact that they have aged. “
Ashley agreed: “OH MY GOD?!” Please, I’m begging you, I’ve literally never looked for an exhibition to come back more than The Society. I want to close!!!’
“They robbed us,” Kathy gets angry. “This exhibition was renewed and then canceled when it was delayed. We deserve another season.
Nowwhyami_innit pleaded, “Even if it’s just one more season, FINE! Just tell us what happened in that city.
As Kat Pettibone added: “When I say I would give my soul for that!” This would be my greatest victory.
Honestly, it’s still difficult.
