When Matthew Perry died in October, it came as a surprise to enthusiasts and friends. The actor drowned in a hot tub, a twist of fate attributed to the presence of ketamine in Perry’s system. While the Friends star was known to have struggled with substance abuse issues throughout his career, he was known to be proudly sober at the time of his death, leading some to wonder what happened. Police investigated this matter and reportedly took them to the door of actress Brooke Mueller.
Brooke Mueller has a small handful of screen credits, but she is perhaps best known as the ex-spouse of actor Charlie Sheen. Mueller has struggled with his own substance abuse issues over the years, and it was in rehab that Mueller met Matthew. Perry and the two formed a friendship.
It’s unclear exactly what law enforcement might suspect, but InTouch Weekly reports that Mueller has spoken to the government several times, prompting her to hire an attorney. The apartment where she lives sober was searched and police confiscated a phone and laptop. The police had a warrant, so there had to be something they came up with that they could also locate by searching the room and electronic devices, but it’s unclear if anything was found.

An “insider” told InTouch that Mueller rarely tells anyone much about the stage beyond the fact that he is “adamant” that he had nothing to do with Perry’s death. She was quite forthcoming with the government when she was questioned.
The criminal investigation is a joint operation of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the United States Postal Inspection Service. The organizations are investigating exactly how Matthew Perry came to possess the ketamine that caused him to drown. Perry was using ketamine as part of a healing regimen, but the amount found in his body at the time was far greater than what he deserved to have been in his formula from the treatment alone.
Matthew Perry spoke brazenly about his struggle with addiction in his memoir published shortly before his death. In them, he mentions ketamine in particular as one of the drugs he abused.
A report by People claims that law enforcement is nearing completion of its investigation and that police hope to qualify “several individuals. “There are no names discussed about who might face tariffs, so it’s unclear if Mueller may be just one of them. . If the report is accurate and the investigation is coming to an end, we will probably all have answers soon.
