Chris Brown hits. The R&B interpreter, known for his successes as “With You” and “Superhero”, brought a legal action of $ 500 million opposite to Warner Bros. and the artistic forces of the Chris Brown research document: a history of violence.
In judicial documents, Brown accuses the production of sufficient corporate entertainment and a manufacturing name of a narrative designed to defame it, calling it a “series rapist and a sexual abuser. “
The trial, rife with accusations of defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, focuses on court cases brought within the series, which was filed on Oct. 1.
Brown argues the creators built the series around a dismissed legal case involving a Jane Doe. According to Brown’s legal team, the lawsuit collapsed in court due to what they called “lies.”
Brown identified his turbulent past, adding his guilt plea for 2009 for having attacked his then girlfriend, Rihanna. The trial these mistakes, pointing out that the singer has moved since then and has worked to rebuild his reputation.
Brown’s attorneys argue that the new docuseries erases that journey of redemption, inflicting lasting harm on his career and personal life.
Brown’s team claims the series represents an orchestrated attack on his character at a time when he has sought to distance himself from his controversial history.
They allege Warner Bros. and his collaborators were motivated more through the benefit and sensationalism than through a commitment to truth.
“This case is about protecting the truth,” said Chris Brown’s attorney, Levi McCathern. “Despite receiving evidence that refuted their claims, the makers of this documentary deliberately promoted false and defamatory information, without regard for their moral obligations as journalists. I would like to thank Mr. Brown for Mr. Brown’s efforts to rebuild his life, but also for the credibility of genuine survivors of violence. “
The lawsuit argues this public smear could have ripple effects on Brown’s career. Since its debut, the docuseries reportedly caused damage to his reputation as an artist. Court filings reveal Brown is seeking a jaw-dropping half-billion dollars in damages.
However, Brown insists that it is not money. To make his point, he pledged to give the desired component of the budget to organizations that support survivors of abuse.
