Christopher Nolan’s next film is officially The Odyssey, a “mythical epic action film”

Nolan’s The Odyssey will bring “Homer’s seminal saga to IMAX movie screens” for the first time and will be a remake of the ancient Greek epic poem first written in the 8th or 7th centuries BC.

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, “The Odyssey,” is a legendary action epic filmed around the world using new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s seminal saga to IMAX movie screens for the first time and will be released in international theaters on July 17, 2026.

For those unfamiliar, The Odyssey follows the journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who travels the world for 10 years in an attempt to get home after the Trojan War. While Universal didn’t reveal any further details on Nolan’s The Odyssey, reports have already been painting a picture of the stacked cast the film will have.

Matt Damon was the first person reported to be in talks to star in Nolan’s next film, which marks his return to Universal after 2023’s Oppenheimer, which won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

Along with Damon, reports indicate that he could join Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Robert Pattinson.

We’re very excited about Nolan’s next movie as we gave Oppenheimer a 10/10. In our review we said: “Oppenheimer, an ever-declining biopic, is Christopher Nolan’s ultimate summary, though it’s not an easy job, with themes of guilt expressed in giant ways through IMAX apocalyptic nightmares that become more enormous and intimate as time goes on.

“A disturbing, mesmerizing vision of what humanity is capable of bringing upon itself, both through its innovation, and through its capacity to justify any atrocity.”

Oh brother, where are you? It’s my favorite edition of The Odyssey so far. John Goodman as Cyclops is off the chain.

The only literature I was forced to read in high school, I enjoyed reading. I hope justice has been served!

It can be epic. like the epic LOTR.

Except maybe he should turn it into a 2 part epic and do the Iliad first.

Bleh. You lost me with the word Zendaya. Gurl is unable to act to save his life.

This has potential to be one of the greatest Greek epics ever.

Please know more than Tenet.

I have enjoyed The Odyssey and feel that Nolan has a great chance of succeeding. The challenge is how to do justice to the entire Odyssey in a single film?

If anyone can do justice to an epic like this, faithful to the original but updated for a trendy audience, it’s Nolan. I can’t wait to hear the details. This seems like maybe it’s worth 2 parts, rather than one incredibly long movie. But I accept it as true with him to make this decision.

I hope it’s a smart movie because it’s been a while since Nolan made a smart movie.

I’m surprised he’s making a mythological film.

Where is Sean Bean? It’s not a sequel to Wolfgang Petersons’ Troy!!

I definitely didn’t expect this from, Nolan. Now I understand why he’s been praising Gladiator II so highly.

I just hope it’s a proper swords & sandals ancient Greek epic and not some modern retelling of the story.

Does this mean Matt Damon will be Odysseus? He seems like the right age for the role.

Exciting stuff. I wonder if he will ever confront Virgil’s Aeneid. It is quite epic in itself, as it is a story of Roman origin animated through the paintings of Homer, taking the attitude of the Trojans fleeing Troy while the Greeks sack the city. Later they move to the Italian peninsula with power struggles very similar to those in Game of Thrones with the factions that already live there.

This will be a new bankruptcy for Nolan; If you can pull it off, there probably isn’t much you can’t do.

It’s unexpected. I’m very interested.

Something tells me that there probably wouldn’t be any outrage over the absence of Greek actors. . .

It will be adapted for an audience 😉

Great, maybe in the end we will have a worthy successor to Kirk Douglas’ film after a hundred years.

I have a beautiful view from my apartment in Kansas, the best for this movie.

I can’t help but think of the PBS show Wishbone and it’s telling of the Odyssey.

Completely unexpected, but exciting. Although I wish there was another important film for Iliad.

Who else thinks Sean Bean is Odysseus like in Troy?

What does this have to do with armored helicopters?

Better be claymation or it’s pointless
