DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Austin Cindric won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway, his fifth win in the last six events.
Cindric looked like the guy to beat early and escaped from a scrum in a past reboot to stay in contention. He overcame leader Brandon Jones in a time after taking the green flag with five laps to overtake the 14-corner, 3.61-mile circuit and did what he’s done in recent years: celebrate in the victory race.
It’s your time to win in two weeks at a racetrack. He won at Road America in Wisconsin last week.
Like this, its toughest festival at Daytona Chase Briscoe and AJ Allmendinger. But Briscoe and Allmendinger were injured at some other resumption seven times. They were trapped in a wild and competitive dive on the first corner. A dozen pilots slowed down and derailed, getting rid of Briscoe and doing enough damage to ruin Allmendinger’s chances.
Cindric walked away at No. 22 for Team Penske after overtaking Jones. Cindric opened a seven-second lead in the final stretch and claimed his seventh Xfinity Series victory in the last two years, four of them on road routes.
Jones second, followed by Noah Gragson and Allmendinger.
