Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, normal anime conventions have naturally been affected, so it’s attractive to see how Funimation has been controlled to propose a new kind of occasion in those dubious times.
Since I am curious about how FunimationCon 2020 was born, I talked to Colin Decker, CEO of Funimation Global Group, to be more informed.
“Funimation participates in a dozen or more anime conventions every year around the world. The events are a focal point for the company and staff to meet and mingle with anime enthusiasts. These occasions mean a lot to the enthusiasts, so when the occasions started to get cancelled due to COVID-19, we felt compelled to do our best to satisfy this desire on behalf of the anime community. FunimationCon 2020 is our first virtual scam. We do it for the love of anime and to bring enthusiasts together at a time when we can’t get together in person. The reaction from the enthusiasts and our partners was incredibly positive and we were able to put together a wonderful program.
“Funimation has aimed to create opportunities to interact with the anime community, whether through our streaming service, video releases in cinemas and at home, products or events, FunimationCon 2020 is an extension of our technique to serve this passionate community.
“The occasion is positioned online at our FunimationCon.com. Registration and participation is free. FunimationCon 2020 is a global occasion available to enthusiasts in six countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Australia and New Zealand. “
Since Funimation has a wonderful anime streaming service, among other things, it makes sense that having a virtual scam can be connected to all this. However, the logistics of such an occasion are not trivial at all.
“We organized the conference in April, and took the component into a script before the July 3-4 event. This is our first virtual conference and we are being informed through construction. We equipped a fair-generation component, Freeman, which delighted in hosting virtual occasions and provided us with a forged platform to host FunimationCon 2020. Our priority was to make sure we had the most productive fan delight possible. In addition to making sure the delight was consistent, we needed to coordinate voice actors and other engaging talent, schedule the event, integrate the enthusiasts’ ability to speak and interact. It was a huge undertaking, but we are very happy to open the doors and welcome everyone on July 3.
“Virtual conferences can be a valuable opportunity. Not everyone should move to a conference near their home and this can be a vital new channel for discussion with each other. We see this in many fan messages saying that this is the first time they have componenticipated in a scam. A virtual scam expands the success on the anime network to bring other people from all over the world to combine and interact. It’s exciting for us and it’s wonderful for anime. Maybe in the future, there will be online and offline factors for conferences to expand to other people who can be components of the experience.
While the pandemic has affected many businesses around the world, anime and Funimation have controlled to thrive, it is.
“I am very proud of our Funimation team, which continues to paint twice to fulfill our promises to enthusiasts. For many enthusiasts, their anime hobby continues to be a welcome relief from the stress of a pandemic. When we switched to remote painting, we had to temporarily innovate a procedural and generation solution that would allow us to implement a lot of remote dubbing studio setups in our dubbing community. As live occasions began to cancel out, we developed a place for enthusiasts to join and celebrate in combination virtually. We have experienced significant expansion and our business is more powerful than ever, in large part because we have remained focused on our fan community.
“Anime is a network based on shared experiences. My hope is to provide as many other people as imaginable with the sense of inclusion and joy that the counterattack provides. Coming together around a shared hobby is a wonderful feeling, so I hope that through making this virtual event, we can make it bigger for millions of enthusiasts around the world.
FunimationCon 2020 will be held from July to July 4th.
