“Control: AWE”: here’s the date and trailer for the DLC Crossover “Alan Wake”

AWE, the moment and ultimate expansion of the amazing action and adventure game Control, was shown for release later this month. The big revelation came in a preview of the Sony State of Play broadcast last night (August 6), giving everyone an intriguing glimpse as expected from Jesse Faden’s new adventures in the oldest house.

Remedy’s tracking of its impressive first DLC, The Foundation, is expected to launch on Thursday, August 27 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. AWE is again in Control after completing its seventh major crusade mission, “The Face of the Enemy”; Once again, Jesse addresses the ever-ubiquitous hissing, along with other changed global occasions, the same elements that give AWE his name.

Oh, and Alan Wake is in it:

Although the emergence of an American lunar lander is exciting enough, the trailer documents Jesse’s next adventure in the research business to “confront the creature hiding in this long-abandoned component of the Office.” To take the decomposition out of his hands, Jesse will have to explore the AWE found here, adding the one from the city of Bright Falls: where Alan Wake disappeared.

It has been shown a little further apart from the trailer and release date, enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the first 15 minutes of AWE on a Live Stream of Twitch on Thursday, August 13 at 12:00 EST, where Remedy Artistic Director Sam Lake and Game Director Mikael Kasurinen will offer this first exclusive look. You can watch out by following Remedy on Twitch on www.twitch.tv/remedygames.

Players who have purchased the Deluxe Virtual Edition of Control for PS4, or Season Pass holders on all platforms, will get AWE on August 27. Individual extensions charge $14.99 each.

As I explained in my review of The Foundation, it’s a little heartbreaking to see Remedy diminish such a brilliant concept, with unlimited potential, after only two DLC, especially since Control is already scheduled for a PS5 and X Series upgrade. However, with 3 more games in Remedy’s works, and this reappearance by Alan Wake, nothing prevents society from rejoining its universe in the coming months. Fingers crossed.
