A court order temporarily stopping the eviction of the Revue Cinema near High Park in Toronto has been extended until the end of the year.
According to an article published on the Cinema X Magazine account, an injunction from an Ontario court preventing the eviction will remain in effect until October 30, when a final judgment is expected to be issued.
The West Toronto Theatre, on Roncesvalles Avenue, opened in 1912 as a movie theater and function with a small level and mobile screen. It has since been classified as a heritage site.
In 2006, the Revue Cinéma closed its doors. This led to the creation of the Revue Film Society, an organization that fought to keep the area operational.
Film Society magazine announced on social media last month that negotiations with the landlord to extend the lease beyond June 30 had failed.
However, the organization asked for a precautionary measure to prevent an imaginable eviction.
