Crunchyroll has recently partnered with the wonderful Discotek and is now streaming more of their wonderful releases.
Specifically, Crunchyroll has streamed the following titles from Discotek’s extensive catalog of vintage anime, Angel Cop, Black Rock Shooter, Cyber City Oedo 808, Gunbuster, Mononoke, The King of Braves: GaoGaiGar, and The King of Braves: GaoGaiGar Final.
Back in 2016, I said that Netflix deserved to ditch screens like Voltron in favor of old mechanical anime like GaoGaiGar, so I’m glad Crunchyroll chose this show. Especially since Discotek’s release was for the recently remastered Japanese Blu-ray version. which is visually and aurally flawless.
Speaking of wonderful super robot anime, Crunchyroll also streams Dancouga, from Discotek’s versions, and it’s also one of my favorite mecha anime.
Aside from that, the inclusion of Cyber City Oedo 808, a series I recently reviewed on Blu-ray, and Gunbuster, are also very well received.
While Crunchyroll has been a bit slow to select some old anime shows, this continued partnership with Discotek is shrewd and welcome. I just hope that when Discotek releases Layzner on Blu-ray, Crunchyroll will make sure to stream it.
In the meantime, you’ll want to watch GaoGaiGar in its entirety. It’s one of the most productive entries in the much-loved Brave series and has some really impressive animation to back it up.
