The bad news continues for Jonathan Majors. As reported by Variety, he will play NBA superstar Dennis Rodman in a high-profile biopic based on the former Chicago Bulls champion.
As the report states, Majors is in the Lionsgate film titled 48 Hours in Las Vegas. The studio distanced itself by releasing the film in its entirety and returning the rights to the producers. Sheesh.
48 Hours in Las Vegas was based on a little-known story that followed Rodman’s improbable vacation to Las Vegas that led to the 1998 NBA Finals.
The film commission is in limbo after Majors was arrested in early 2023 following a domestic dispute with his now-ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Now that he has been found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment, the studio has nonetheless dropped the hammer.
As it works in Hollywood, without a top-caliber star and a studio the length of Lionsgate, the film packaging procedure has to start over. Things are absolutely desperate. The producers are Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who know what they’re doing, and with screenwriter Jordan VanDina still on board, there would possibly be hope for 48 Hours in Las Vegas. Lord and Miller produce for their production company Lord Miller along with Adiya Sood. Other executive producers include Dennis Rodman himself, Ari Lubet and Will Allegra.
It seems like ages ago, but back in March of last year, Majors ran and was super excited to play the NBA rebounding legend. In an interview with AP Entertainment he said:
“[Rodman] is a role that I’m going to make sure to push back that limit because it requires it,” he said. “He’s such a total person. So it’s going to take a lot. I have to do it. ” Find out how to get it.
Majors has maintained his innocence and says he will make a strong appeal.
