The first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World has answered a lot of questions and shown a lot of rumors about what’s happening in the next Marvel movie, but there are probably still plenty of twists and turns that the movie is waiting to reveal. It’s imaginable that Anthony Mackie would just do a Tom Holland and ruin one of the main twists. Some recent comments seem to suggest that, along with many of the supporting characters from The Incredible Hulk movie, the Hulk himself could be part of the cast of Brave New World.
In an interview with EW (via Twitter), Anthony Mackie asked how the Hulk fits into Brave New World, contemplating how many supporting characters The Incredible Hulk has in the new Captain America movie. Mackie made it clear that the events of the Hulk movie didn’t directly relate to the new movie, but then it seemed to slip that the Hulk will “appear” in the movie. Listen to what Mackie is saying and judge for yourself.

In fact, we can read Mackie’s comments that the Incredible Hulk will appear in Captain America: Brave New World. Honestly, it wouldn’t be that surprising considering we know that actors like Liv Tyler and Tom Blake Nelson, who last appeared in the MCU in The Incredible Hulk, will be returning in the next MCU movie. Bringing back Betty Ross without adding Bruce Banner would seem a little strange.
At the same time, it’s not at all clear that Anthony Mackie is saying what he turns out to be saying here. It probably doesn’t mean that the Hulk will physically appear, just that it will be applicable to the plot. We know that Hulk will “appear” at least in the discussion since we know that Red Hulk will be in Brave New World. Hulk as a concept will be a component of the story, even if the character is not. Mackie is also interrupted by Harrison Ford. while he’s talking, so it’s conceivable that he might have said anything else that was missed in the course of the conversation.
The return of the Hulk would definitely be a big deal in Brave New World. We last saw Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk in the MCU series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. This screen also revealed Hulk’s son, who would possibly be or possibly not be applicable to the character in the future.
While Captain America: Brave New World’s release date is still a few months away, if the Hulk returns to the MCU, it’s conceivable that a more official announcement may not be that far away. Although nothing was said at the recent SDCC Marvel panel, Marvel will also be up to the mark at the Disney Studios show at D23 in just under two weeks. It’s conceivable that we could hear more there.
