Walt Disney (DIS) – Get Report and former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick have announced that they will unite to expand content about racial and social issues that Kaepernick has highlighted in his activism.
“The partnership will focus on unnamed storytelling and stories that explore race, social injustice, and the pursuit of equity, and provide a new platform to showcase the paintings of Black and Brown administrators and producers,” Disney said in a statement.
It will cover all Disney platforms: Walt Disney Television, ESPN, Hulu, Pixar and The Undefeated.
“Kaepernick will work hard with The Undefeated, which is expanding its portfolio to Disney, to expand the stories of black and dark communities,” the company said.
The Undefeated is a sport and pop culture owned by ESPN.
The first progression of the assignment of this agreement is a documentary series about Kaepernick’s journey. He took the San Francisco Giants to the Super Bowl in 2013.
He began kneeling the national anthem in 2016 and has not played in the league since that year.
Kaepernick filed a collusion complaint against the NFL and its in November 2017 and withdrew the complaint in February 2019 after reaching a confidential settlement with the NFL.
“I am very pleased to announce this historic partnership with Disney on all its platforms to encourage Black and Brown directors, creators, storytellers and manufacturers, and to motivate other young people with original and compelling perspectives,” he said in a statement.
Disney shares traded at $113.19, up 0.9%, and have risen 21% in the past 3 months.
