Disney CEO Bob Chapek and Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy discussed the scenario at a recent call for a convention, the deadline said. Chapek quoted him as saying that the cancellations were planned due to the “flow and reflux” of the numbers of coronavirus infections.
Florida saw an increase in infections right as the park was set to reopen, however, which may have contributed to a higher number of cancellations than initially expected.

Chapek and McCarthy said the park met the monetary criteria established through the corporation for reopening. The park would have its operating costs canceled, plus a small fee.
McCarthy also explained, “Per capita spending is very high and that’s because other people haven’t visited the park in a while.”
