Ellen DeGeneres responded to accusations of racism and toxicity on Ellen DeGeneres’ program, first reported through BuzzFeed News. Just hours after DeGeneres responded to the allegations, a BuzzFeed News article was published alleging allegations of sexual misconduct in the office.
In an article published on July 16, BuzzFeed News spoke to an existing worker and 10 former program workers, who said they faced “racism, concern and intimidation” in the workplace.
After being examined after the publication of the article, DeGeneres wrote a letter to his staff, which he received through CBS News on Thursday. In the letter, DeGeneres said he hoped the exhibition would be a “place of happiness” where everyone would be “treated with respect” and “disappointed to learn” that this “is not the case.”
He also said the program is taking steps to “correct the problems.” Warner Media, the show’s distributor, is also investigating the allegations, reports Jamie Yuccas of CBS News.
In a statement to CBS News, Warner Bros. stated that it had conducted an internal investigation and that “although not all allegations have been substantiated, we are disappointed that the main findings of the investigation have indicated some deficiencies similar to the day-to-day life of the program. . Just hours after DeGeneres responded to buzzFeed News’s first report, one was published. In the July 30 article, BuzzFeed News reported that it had spoken to “dozens of men and women running the scenes” of the show, who claimed that sexual harassment and misconduct through major executive manufacturers were endemic in the office.
Krystie Yandoli, buzzFeed News entertainment reporter who wrote both articles, told CBS This Morning on Friday that she had spoken to nearly 50 former workers working on “The Ellen Show.”
“Everyone says they’ve discovered that their behind-the-scenes delights in contrast to the show’s benefits. And what Ellen DeGeneres has built is a total brand, adding the ‘be kind’ message,” Yandoli says.
Some former painters advised BuzzFeed News that DeGeneres takes more care of the surrounding area. “They need to see a replacement around Ellen’s paintings and around the paintings on television in general,” Yandoli said.
In its first report, BuzzFeed News wrote that the maximum ex-worker blamed executive manufacturers and other executives for what they described as toxicity.
A former worker, a black woman, told BuzzFeed News that she had been the victim of racist comments, movements and “micro-aggression.” One worker said she was tired of commenting on her race, so she essentially “quit her job.” Other former workers reported being rejected after having to take a medical leave and mourning days.
Executive makers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner responded to the accusations in the first report with a joint to BuzzFeed, saying they took the stories of the workers “very seriously.”
In a statement from CBS News, executive manufacturer Kevin Leman said the BuzzFeed News article was “full of fake messages.” He said he “categorically” denies “any kind of sexual irregularity.” He said that one component of his task as editor-in-chief is to make up jokes, and he is “horrified” that some of his attempts to write jokes may have been offensive.
“My purpose has been to treat all staff with type, inclusion and respect.” For as long as I’ve been on the show, as far as I know, I’ve never had a single interpersonal or human resources complaint about me, and I’m devastated beyond the confidence that this kind of malicious and misleading article can be published,’ Leman said.
In the BuzzFeed News article, Several allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior were opposed to Leman, ranging from touching the issue to sexually particular comments.
In BuzzFeed’s report of the time, accusations were made against Glavin, executive manufacturer Kevin Leman and co-executive maker Jonathan Norman.
Five former workers said Glavin touched them in a way that caused them to lose, and dozens of other former workers also said that he “has a reputation for being with women,” BuzzFeed News reports.
BuzzFeed News also reports that five former workers said Glavin had a button at his workplace that remotely closed his workplace door, which he used “as a bullying tactic” for reprimands.
Another former worker said Norman had “taken care” by taking him to concerts and other work-related benefits. Then he tried to perform oral sex on him, the former worker told BuzzFeed News.
Both Leman and Norman denied the allegations in statements to BuzzFeed News. The publication stated that Glavin had responded to a request for comment.
