Dune director Denis Villeneuve is about to make a movie about nuclear war, and it already sounds scary.
According to Deadline, the filmmaker could once again collaborate with production company Dune Legendary to adapt the nonfiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario, written by Annie Jacobsen.
The e-book is a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and describes, minute by minute, what would happen if a nuclear missile were fired at the Pentagon. It is based on interviews with experts, both military and civilian, and provides a frighteningly realistic view of what a world-ending nuclear exchange would look like. Deadline says the film adaptation is expected to be a “chilling story of where the global could go. “
At the moment, Villeneuve is in a position to produce and adapt and/or direct the film. Considering that Dune: Part 2 also featured a lot of atomic weapons in its narrative, it turns out that the assignment would be in very clever hands.
“I’m a huge fan of Denis Villeneuve’s films, so it’s fantastic to be able to share this news regardless,” Jacobsen wrote on Twitter.
Speaking of Dune, a trio is officially in the works. This film would adapt the events of Dune: Messiah, and Villeneuve has already said that it will likely be his last film in the franchise. It is also expected to be completed before the adaptation of Nuclear War: A Scenario.
