Dwayne Johnson recalls a time when he played Willy Wonka.
The proud 48-year-old father shared a video of willy Wonka and the 1971 chocolate factory on his Instagram account, where he remembers being approached for the role of Tim Burton’s reboot in 2005, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“This morning I took our little kids to one of my favorite videos of all time: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. They enjoyed it and now they expect me to give them a piece stuffed with chocolate and candy,” the actor wrote in the subtitle. “This will be my next task ?.”
Johnson continued: “A great story: in the early 2000s, iconic director Tim Burton thought I bet on Willy Wonka is his remake, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I’m thinking ‘SAINT-S -, IM IN’ ? ? ? ? ♂️.”

“But that many years ago, when I started in Hollywood without a global force in the workplace or a real acting joy to succeed,” he said. “The role, of course, was for Johnny Depp, who at the time was the biggest star in the world. The rest of the story.”
The Baywatch star added: “And on the way, I went. The fact that Tim even imagined himself as me (although I’m sure he thought for the 7 seconds 🙂 it actually meant a lot to me because I had just entered the business without concept of what the long term holds. The 2005 film starred Depp, 57, as the imaginative candy creator, starring Freddie Highmore as Charlie. The cast included AnnaSophia Robb, Julia Winter, Philip Wiegratz and Jordan Fry as the other young men who win gold tickets at the Wonka factory, and Helena Bonham Carter, David Kelly, Missi Pyle and Deep Roy as the Oompa Loompas.
Although Johnson probably wouldn’t have starred in the children’s film, he has since played leading roles in other children’s films, adding Moana, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Jumanji: The Next Level and The Next Jungle Cruise alongside Emily Blunt.
