The Primetime Emmys, organized through Jimmy Kimmel, will be very different this year due to protective precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The show’s executive producers, Reginald Hudlin and Ian Stewart, recently unveiled their ready-to-use plan to make the rite of awards as close to the overall as you can imagine, even though more than 140 nominees are far away.

Kimmel, 52, will house the Staples Center on site, which in the typical Microsoft Theater location, with no audience.

Hudlin and Stewart told Variety that they chose the largest site as a protective measure for the team and to host 140 live streams when they planned to send film crews or only camera devices to all nominees.

“One is that it is so gigantic that the team can paint safely according to COVID’s secure protocols and be at the right distance from others,” Hudlin said. “Because, of course, the most important thing is protection first.”

He continued: “The component of the moment is that this screen will want a number of wiring connections in and out because the nominees might not be there. So let’s take the cameras to where they are. And the number of transmissions that this demand is so massive that we want a facility like the Staples Center, which is used to receiving so many signals from the hounds that cover the game to take care of the type of inputs and outputs you want.

“Normally, you’re in what comes out of your room. Here, before we can get something out, we have to deal with 120-140 things that happen,” Stewart said. “And there are also human beings at the end of those meals. We don’t need other people to take our breath away, we need them to feel comfortable walking in and having fun.

Producers plan to send studio cameras to all nominees around the world to prevent others from taking photos on laptops or image apps like Skype, Facetime or Zoom.

“They can be at home, they can be in the garden, in a hotel, they can be statused in the street aspect. It doesn’t matter where they feel comfortable. But we have to bring in as many nominees as we can logistically, live on the show,” Stewart said.

He added: “We’re looking to zoomies, we’re looking to do the Emmys.”

“So one of the things we’re looking for is to take the highest-end kit to where the user is, regardless of their level of convenience,” Stewart explained. “The important thing for us is to have very high-end cameras, with a user who operates them in someone’s space or anywhere they are. That’s our starting point.”

EMMYS VIRTUAL IN 2020 DUE TO CONCERNS OF THE CORONAVIRUS, PLANS WRITTEN IN A NEW LETTER TO THE NOMINEES

The Executive Emmy Manufacturer explained that if a candidate is comfortable with a small team, he or she will look to adapt, but if not, give orders to close friends or the applicants’ family circle to film them.

“There are other nominated people living in Los Angeles, living in London, living in Berlin and Tel Aviv, so we take a look at all those issues and demanding situations and look to perceive them,” Hudlin admitted.

Although the Emmys are a very formal occasion with a classic structure, Hudlin said they were open to “a lot of variation and experimentation within the series.” He added: “Once you say the global is your studio, you can do creative things.”

“If you need to be sweaty on your couch, that’s fine,” Stewart said. “It’s going to be a lot more casual, a lot more fun, because we’re closer together.”

He continued: “We hope well, but I can’t sit here and say it’s going through 100 percent perfectly because no one has done it before.”

The resolution of sending cameras to the nominees opposes the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony, which required nominees, winners or losers, to send pre-recorded speeches.

Hudlin and Stewart also revealed a primary setback they had experienced, which would have made transmission smoother. They asked for a preview of the winners but they were “closed.”

“We think this year could be a normal situation, but unfortunately there’s no room for manoeuvre,” Stewart revealed. “We’ll know when everyone finds out. It’s the right way to do it, it’s just boring.”
