EQS-News: Veganz Group AG and Körber Technologies GmbH sign contract for the distribution of OrbiFarm® technology

Ludwigsfelde, Germany, 30. 05. 2024 – On May 28, Veganz Group AG signed a contract with Körber Technologies GmbH for the design, manufacture and distribution of the patented OrbiFarm® generation for indoor cultivation of staple foods. Tested in recent years with the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology, the IME will be transferred to an industrial-scale production plant, under series production conditions.

Thanks to the pioneering OrbiFarm® technology, the proteins have been efficiently grown for the first time in indoor crops. The effects of OrbiFarm’s® cultivation trials with pea plants are so promising in terms of yield, quality, reproducibility, protection and cost-effectiveness that they can now be transferred to industrial plants. The structure of a first industrial prototype is now complete. It is planned to be built at the Fraunhofer IME Institute in Aachen. The institute provides an appropriate structure for this purpose.

Pea plants grown at OrbiFarm® have a fruit yield twice as high as traditional cultivation, but can also be harvested six times a year. All biomass, i. e. fruits, plants and roots, can be used for further processing into raw protein tissues for industry. which especially increases performance and power. The result is an economic powerhouse that grows indoors with the benefits of controlled environmental conditions.

“We are very pleased to be able to achieve this vital milestone in pea protein production in collaboration with Veganz. With our decades of experience in device and plant engineering, Körber makes a decisive contribution to ensuring that the OrbiFarm® generation for commodity food cultivation can be deployed on a commercial scale anywhere in the world,” says Dr. Jan-Gerd Frerichs, Head of Future Farming at Körber Technologies GmbH.
