THIS IS A BRIEF UPDATE. The story of AP follows below.
Irish media say EU Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan resigns after being embroiled in a recent controversy over Ireland and the questionable adherence to COVID-19 rules.
The resolution came when the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, assessed whether she can still remain in her task after sending her a report on her travels and social activities in recent weeks, adding a dinner from the golf corporation for her to apologize.
Phone calls to the European Commission to verify that the reports were not returned.
Hogan has been criticized in his home country amid accusations that he has circumvented the regulations that other Irish citizens will have to comply with. The EU is constantly under pressure on the importance of complying with all restrictions imposed through member countries, and turning a blind eye to crimes committed through its own senior officials would undermine this effort.
Hogan holds a position on the Block Executive Committee, as he is the key user to blame for foreign industry problems such as industrial agreements with the United States or long-term relations with Britain, which officially left the EU on 31 January.
The scandal has been fueled through adjustments in Hogan’s account of his actions, as he issued a series of statements about his affair and his compliance with regulations imposed across Ireland.
