Facebook boycott: Disney’s latest to pull classified ads from platform hate speech policies

Disney has the latest, and one of the giant, company to cut advertising spending on Facebook as a component of the boycott in development against the social media platform. Many giant companies – such as Starbucks, Adidas and Unilever – have withdrawn advertising budget from the site because of their mismanagement of hate speech and other debatable documents.

It is known when and for how long this deleted Disney ad will take effect. Ads from Disney subsidiaries such as ABC and Freeform have already disappeared from the social network.

The move by Disney was first reported Saturday by the Wall Street Journal. Disney has not made any public comment on their plans.

Previously, the media giant had purchased a significant amount of advertising on the platform for its new streaming service, Disney. The Journal reports that Disney was truly the largest advertiser on Facebook in the first part of 2020, with about $210 million spent. In 2019, it was the second largest Home Depot advertiser.

“We know we still have paintings to do, and we will continue to paint with civil rights teamsArray… and other mavens to further expand tools, technologies and policies to continue this fight,” Facebook said in a boycott. Array

Despite the company’s statement, boycott organizers said there was “no commitment to act” after the meeting with CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The motion took shape earlier in July, organized through teams such as the NAACP and the Anti-Defamation League. These civil rights teams criticized Facebook’s continued inability to combat sectarian content and intentional misinformation well.
