Meghan, Duchess of Sussex was an American actress who became a royal when she married Prince Harry in 2018. As a part of the royal family, she left her acting job behind to take on duties for the crown.
Earlier this year, Meghan and Harry announced they would be stepping down as senior members of the royal family. The couple subsequently moved to Los Angeles with their son, which led to speculations that Meghan was unhappy as a royal.
Now an alleged tell-all book is confirming these rumors with claims that Meghan sacrificed a lot of her life in order to be with Harry. However, some fans seem to think Meghan’s reported claim is an exaggeration.
On August 11, 2020, the book Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family by royal commentators Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, will be published. Recently, however, some excerpts have been released to news outlets.
In a passage published by The Times, it is said that, before she and Harry left the royal family, Meghan wanted try her best to make things work in her new role.
She told a friend, “I gave up my entire life for this family… I was willing to do whatever it takes. But here we are. It’s very sad.”

Although it is unclear whether Meghan really spoke these words or not, some fans think the claim that she “gave up” her life for the royal family is an exaggeration, especially since she and Harry eventually moved back to her hometown of Los Angeles anyway.
“She didn’t give up anything for anyone,” one person wrote on Twitter. “Marrying Harry made her famous & now she is back to her old L.A. life w/the newly added benefit of celebrities & the Prince of Wales paying for all of it.”
Meanwhile, another fan said, “She didn’t ‘give up’ her entire life for the RF she gave it up for Harry. Harry in return has given up his family for her. However, 18 months later, she is back in LA, so she has got ‘her life’ back and is back in the fold of her ‘friends’ and Harry is technically on his own (with his wife and child) living a ‘commoners’ life.”
Neither Meghan nor Harry has commented on these reports.

The authors of Finding Freedom have clarified that Meghan and Harry did not contribute the book. Rather, the information shared by Scobie and Durand came from sources allegedly close to the couple.
According to the book’s description, it aims to go “beyond the headlines to reveal unknown details of Harry and Meghan’s life together, dispelling the many rumors and misconceptions that plague the couple on both sides of the pond.”
As seen from other excerpts that have been released, Finding Freedom also talks about the alleged conflict Meghan and Harry have with Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. It also delves into several scandals Meghan and Harry found themselves in as royals.
