ATLANTA (AP) – The Atlanta Braves have renewed their hopes that their initial release will take them to the moment in a shorter season.
The New York Yankees have also feared that injury disorders could be a problem for the entire season.
Freddie Freeman hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning against Chad Green and the Braves, led with a smart start from Max Fried, recovered to beat the Yankees 2-1 on Wednesday night to sweep a double.
The Yankees lost five in a row and saw outfielder Aaron Judge aggravate his right calf stretched. The Twinbill Judge’s moment game is the first since it was activated from the disabled list, and he went to the middle of the sixth inning.
“Obviously he’s very frustrated,” manager Aaron Boone said.
Boone said the calf pass trial “tightened again” as he ran to the base of the moment after his single in the fourth inning. He said the trial issued will be evaluated on Thursday.
“It doesn’t seem to be serious enough that we want to get him out of there,” Boone said.
In the first game, Ian Anderson dazzled on his major league debut, keeping the Yankees goalless in the sixth inning and finishing Gerrit Cole’s 20-game winning streak when the Braves won 5-1.
Masahiro Tanaka dominated, allowing only 3 hits in five scoreless innings and left the game for the time being with a 1-0 lead. Green (2-1) allowed a bachelor in the area to Dansby Swanson with two outs in the sixth before allowing Freeman’s run, a shot in the opposing area over the 385-foot mark in the left area.
Fried (5-0) allowed four hits and one run in six forged innings. Mark Melancon pitched the seventh for his fifth stop.
The Yankees scored his career opposite Fried in the fifth. Miguel Andujar hit the left single, climbed to the third position with a double on the third baseline via Erik Kratz and scored with a Tyler Wade elevater to left field.
Fried won the Braves’ victory ahead of Anderson’s impressive departure.
Ronald Acua Jr. celebrated his return to the lineup by leading the first game with a 473-foot practice opposed to Cole.
Anderson (1-0) gave a massive twist to a depleted Atlanta rotation. The 22-year right, the third overall pick in the 2016 draft, did not allow a hit until Luke Voit connected for his 11th career home in the most sensible team with a punch in the sixth.
It’s Anderson’s only hit in six innings. He took out six and walked two. Anderson opened the game with two hits to Mike Tauchman and never seemed to shake.
“At first there was definitely nerves, but I think it’s a smart nervousness and an emotion to get out a little bit,” Anderson said.
Anderson rose to the majors on Tuesday before his scheduled debut was postponed due to rain. He appeared with a new beard that surprised manager Brian Snitker.
“I didn’t recognize him, ” said Snitker. “When he came here dressed in a mask, I didn’t know who he was.”
Dansby Swanson and Marcell Ozuna also ruled Cole (4-1), who suffered his first regular-season defeat since May 22, 2019 with Houston.
“It will be a party or a famine in terms of intelligent command for a while, then a bad commando in some bad places,” Cole said.
Cole was looking for the first American League pitcher to win 21 consecutive regular-season decisions. The all-time record is 24 through Carl Hubbell, followed by Roy Face (22) and Cole, Roger Clemens, Jake Arrieta and Rube Marquard with 20.
Cole had been undefees of 28 consecutive regular-season starts; Clemens has the mark with 30. Cole’s 15-month loss came here in last year’s first World Series game with Houston against Washington.
Yankees newcomer allowed five runs in five strikeout hits in five or more innings.
“A few shots back and it’s a dominant exit, Gerrit,” Boone said.
Cole relieved after allowing Freeman a double and a passport to Ozuna without a punch in the sixth. Nick Markakis hit a double producer against Luis Cessa.
Acua fired a 97 mph fastball into the left field seats to open the first one. It is the longest circuit in Acua and the longest of all the vanquished Bravos at Truist Park, which opened in 2017.
Swanson hit a two-run houser after Cole walked to Acua in the third inning. With two outs in the driveway, Ozuna his eighth house ran 469 feet to the left center.
OFFER IN DOLLARS
The Yankees acquired catcher Rob Brantly from the San Francisco Giants for $1. Brantly designated for assignment on July 28 and assigned to the Giants’ exchange site on August 1. He’ll report to the Yankees’ election site.
Boone said Brantly, 31, an Array228 career hitter in six seasons, “gives us some coverage as we meet the industry deadline” on Monday.

The Yankees were betting on the first of three doubles in five days. They play twinbills at Yankee Stadium against the Mets on Friday and Sunday. The Mets will be the designated team of the house at the time of the doubles game, and the Yankees will bat first because they are recovery games originally planned for the Mets’ Citi Field.
Unbelief
Anderson felt like an amateur watching the Acua circuit.
“It’s just a laugh to see,” Anderson said. “I couldn’tArray … even now, incredulous of how much he hit that and in a great opposite place to Cole. He’s a wonderful player.”
