Garting Black OTT Service: When and Where to Watch the First Drama in India

After delivering hits like IC 814: The Handahar Hijack, Ctrl and Heeramandi in 2024, Netflix India created the country’s first drama, Black Mandate.

The series is based on the book of the same call written by the journalist Suntra Choudhury and the former criminal director of Tihaha, Sunil Gupta.

With this, Vikramaditya Motwane will return to the long narrative on Netflix. He is the author of the bestselling book Sacred Games.

According to Netflix India, the series offers a “thrilling exploration” of the morally charged world of Asia’s biggest criminal, Tihar, through the eyes of young jailer Sunil Kumar Gupta as he takes on some of India’s most infamous criminals.

Tihar has been home to some of the most notorious criminals, from Charles Sobhraj to the convicts of the Nirbhaya case.

“While Sunil suffers ethical dilemmas and strength struggles, drama shows the raw and filtered truth of prison life,” Netflix said in a press release in December 2024.

This exclusive crime drama premiered on Netflix on January 10. It is presented through entertainment applause, an Andolan production in the deal with Confluence Media. It must be in streaming on Netflix India.

The trailer for the series was released earlier this month.

“Sunil’s journey through Tihar Jail provided a unique perspective like no other to capture that complexity,” Motwane said.

“The trailer is a preview of how the series will reveal the layers of a world that is as brutal and complex as it is fun. “

Directed through Zahan Kapoor, this drama features a stellar ensemble including Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur, Sidhant Gupta and special appearances through Rajshri Deshpande, Tota Roy Chaudhary and Rajendra Guppta.
