Spoilers ahead for Good Grief.
While other streaming services continue to compete to attract viewers, those with a Netflix subscription know that Netflix is constantly releasing new TV and movie content. One of the new Netflix movies that just arrived is Daniel Levy’s first film, Good Grief. It is an emotional event. drama that lasts a year, and actress Ruth Negga explained to CinemaBlend how she followed her character Sophie for such a long period of time.
The trailer for Good Grief shows that the film begins with Daniel Levy’s protagonist, Marc, wasting his husband (Luke Evans) in a twist of automotive fate over Christmas. His friends joined him the following year, adding Sophie through Ruth Negga. As you can see in the video above, I had the privilege of speaking with the cast prior to the film’s release. I asked the Passing actress how her emotional adventure continued the year of the film, and she replied:
Well, I mean, he’s a pretty messy person, so that was for the best. You know what I mean? When you put it like that now, I think it was the best thing for her. But that kind of power. I feel that Sophie has a power that is bigger than her own body. As if it were small, but its power is broad and large. And infrequently he doesn’t know what to do with it.
Points were raised. While it might have been tricky to figure out where her character’s head was during the filming of Good Grief, Ruth Negga turns out to think it was the best thing for Sophie. She is a dispersed, high-energy consumer for the duration of the film, which is exacerbated by drug and/or alcohol use.
Daniel Levy revealed that he had an acting coach when he directed and starred in Good Grief, which goes to show how expressive all of the film’s performances are. In the end, the procedure was a success, as Levy, Negga, and the rest of the cast had wonderful chemistry that backed up the task that might have otherwise been a huge disappointment.
Compared to Schitt’s Creek, Good Grief is a much more serious and emotional story that Levy has to take on as director, writer, producer, and star. I love playing with the character’s energies and having my trail through her. She searches for her form and can’t locate her. And there it is. It is the awakening that occurs when she abandons all artifices, when she stops running. And you know in that moment when you put it down and think, “That’s it. “Maybe?
This really paid off, as Sophie is an intriguing and endlessly charismatic character in Good Grief, even at her worst. The cast of Good Grief all really nail it, and the movie is another clear highlight of Daniel Levy’s talents as both an actor and filmmaker. Hopefully whatever comes next will include a reunion for he and Ruth Negga.
