Google launches new TV streaming to update Chromecast

Google has introduced a new TV cast to update the old Chromecast dongle.

Google TV Streamer is a 4K set-top box that Google says will include many of the features of Chromecast, as well as serving as a smart hub in the home, a new design, and the use of artificial intelligence to present content.

As with Chromecast, users can upload their subscriptions to Netflix, Disney, Apple TV, and others. The Streamer will also have more than 800 channels, according to Google.

AI functions work through Gemini. This will allow users to see summaries and reviews of television screens when deciding what to watch. Gemini will also select content for users, for all subscriptions, based on their viewing habits, and will allow users to create watchlists with AI recommendations.

Obviously, Google is looking to get more visual space in its media room, as the Steamer is particularly larger than the Chromecast. Its predecessor is said to hang the TV, but the new device is designed to sit on top of the TV stand and be part of the broadcast furniture.

Part of this increase in length is due to improved specs, such as 4GB of memory, 32GB of storage, HDMI 2. 1, a 22% faster processor, and an Ethernet port.

Streamer will also bring some smart home features to TVs. The device supports connection for the popular Matter and a Thread Edge router, which means a simpler way to connect smart home devices from other businesses. Google says this will result in faster reaction times and greater reliability.

One of the biggest innovations of the Chromecast is the new Google Home panel. Video doorbell owners will now be able to view the camera feed on their TV, adjust the lights, or change the temperature of the house. These are features that Google Home users have been asking for for a long time.

The home panel will also come with advanced features from Nest Aware. Later this year, Gemini will be able to recognize quick scenes from smart home video streams. The company provides examples of how to use the camera activity search in the Google Home app to ask “Did kids leave their motorcycles in the driveway?”Or “Did my dog train the biscuits?” These features will be available to Nest Aware subscribers in the public preview later this year.

It’s all done with a redesigned voice remote control with a new narrow profile and textured back for greater grip. There’s a programmable button to open the user’s favorite app and a ring option in case of loss, activated by a button on the back of the Streamer or by asking the Assistant-enabled device to locate it.

The Google Streamer will be available for purchase in the Google Store on September 24 for $99. 99.
