‘Gundam: Requiem For Vengeance’ Gets Stunning New Trailer

The upcoming CG Gundam anime, Requiem for Vengeance, got a new trailer and it’s much better than I expected.

Set in the final months of the one-year war, this is another side story from this era in the chronology of the Universal Century. If you’re feeling the vibes of MS Igloo and the 08th MS Team here, it shouldn’t be a surprise, as Requiem for Vengeance also includes mechas. design via Kimitoshi Yamane.

Yamane is clever in handling army mecha design and has a lot of experience when it comes to running within the very fast confines of Gundam Saga. Especially since Requiem for Vengeance is set in a year-long war, it means Yamane has a lot to gain. from his previous work.

That said, the new Gundam design you see in the most recent trailer (shown below) is fairly new stylistically, and while it’s based on the RX-78-2, there’s a lot more going on (such as references to Gundam’s GP01 (among others).

However, the big takeaway here is that the CG is much higher than the maximum of the previous CG Gundam anime, especially the one from MS Igloo. Admittedly, the characters are a bit unconventional, but the mechs are very well done. Over time, I expect the look of the character to improve.

What’s unexpected about Requiem for Vengeance is that it uses Unreal Engine 5, proving that the real-time CG animation channels are arguably ahead of their previous pre-rendered brethren (at least as part of the anime).

A large part of the team has also enjoyed video games, and director Erasmus Brosdau worked at Crytek on the scenes for the studio’s games.

However, this convergence of game generation and production processes with anime is remarkable and worth watching. Especially since games like Armored Core VI can take advantage of a technique similar to the real-time animation pipeline. Although in this case, we need to go in a more stylized and hybrid direction with 2D animated characters and cell-shading mechs.

One last thing is that the music in the trailer looks amazing, and I just hope it’s representative of what we’ll get in the final anime.

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is coming to Netflix.
