The hackers have seized several sub-registrations known for posting MAGA messages in Trump’s favor.
Recently, I noticed high-level Twitter accounts collected via hackers to post a cryptocurrency scam, but President Trump’s account has been saved. Then, the Roblox gaming platform underwent an account acquisition crusade with pro-Trump messages. Now, pro-Trump hackers have attacked again, this time degrading several vital sub-reddit on Reddit.
It seems that 72 subreddits have so far been degraded, with banner designs modified to reflect Trump’s crusade and messages posted on Trump’s.
Account commitments began on Friday, August 7, afternoon, and here you can get a complete list of applicable sub-registrations.
In a post about the Reddit management network, the network showed the incident in progress. “We have officially shown that none of the compromised accounts activated 2fa at the time of engagement,” the publication says, suggesting that this is a password engagement attack to moderate accounts. The message also states that Reddit “works to block the bad guys and cancels the changes”.
Those affected will have their sub-reddits removed, and moderators will be restored later. “We’ll add mods again, but that’s not our first priority,” the post says.
I contacted Twitter and a spokesperson emailed me the following statement:
“An investigation is underway on a number of vandalized communities. It turns out that the source of the attacks is the accounts of committed moderators. We are running to block those accounts and repair the affected communities.”
A Twitter account that also appears to have been hacked is lately claiming the duty of the attack.
If you are moderating a Reddit sub-reddit and two-factor authentication enabled, this may be the right time!
